Institute for Public Understanding and Bluntness

Contact The IFPC

Send public wording, official replies, notices, policies or statements that need to be clearer.

The IFPC reviews communication through plain English, better questions and measured bluntness.

What to send

The IFPC is interested in wording that appears official, polished or procedural, but still leaves people unclear about what has happened, what is being decided, or what needs to happen next.

Include the wording, source, date, organisation and any relevant background. Remove private names, phone numbers, addresses and personal details unless they are necessary to understand the issue.

Official replies

Replies that appear complete but do not answer the actual question being asked.

Public notices

Notices that fail to explain what is happening, who is affected or what people should do next.

Statements and policies

Public statements, policy summaries or explanations that are vague, circular or unnecessarily complicated.
